چکیده

Targeted radiotherapy is an evolving and promising modality of cancer treatment. The killing of cancer cells is achieved with the use of biological vectors and appropriate radionuclides. Among the many advantages of this approach are its selectiveness in delivering the radiation to the target, relatively less severe and infrequent side effects, and the possibility of assessing the uptake by the tumor prior to the therapy. Several different radiopharmaceuticals are currently being used by various administration routes and targeting mechanisms. This article aims to briefly review the current status of targeted radiotherapy as well as to outline the advantages and disadvantages of radionuclides used for this purpose.

Developmental trends in targeted radionuclide therapy of neuroendocrine tumors

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms including carcinoids, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary tumors, medullary thyroid carcinoma and phaeochromocytomas. The symptoms and the outcome of NETs differ considerably between patients depending on several factors. By labelling tracers with a radioisotope, the tracer acts as a ...

Production of no-carrier-added Ho-166 for targeted therapy purposes

Introduction:Holmium-166 radionuclide is one of the most effective radionuclides used for targeted therapy with theranostic properties. One method to produce this radioisotope is via the decay of its parent (indirect method). In this study applicability of extraction chromatography (EXC) for separation of no carrier added 166Ho from neutron-irradiated natura...

Targeted Radionuclide Therapy of Human Tumors

Targeted radionuclide therapy is one of the most intensively developing directions of nuclear medicine. Unlike conventional external beam therapy, the targeted radionuclide therapy causes less collateral damage to normal tissues and allows targeted drug delivery to a clinically diagnosed neoplastic malformations, as well as metastasized cells and cellular clusters, thus providing systemic thera...

The comparison of serial SPECT-CT imaging to estimate absorbed dose to the organ at risk from peptide receptor radionuclide therapy dosimetry

Introduction: In Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT), the administration of radionuclide such as Lu-177 label with a pharmaceutical agent useful to destroy the lesion. The amount of Lu-177 radioactivity administered to the patients is still not standardize and generally not more than 7.4 GBq per session due to the patient’s safety issues. The first cycle of Lu-177 is a...

Targeted Radionuclide Therapy: Practical Applications and Future Prospects.

In recent years, there has been a proliferation in the development of targeted radionuclide cancer therapy. It is now possible to use baseline clinical and imaging assessments to determine the most effective therapy and to tailor this therapy during the course of treatment based on radiation dosimetry and tumor response. Although this personalized approach to medicine has the advantage of maxim...

Quantitative Imaging for Targeted Radionuclide Therapy Dosimetry - Technical Review

Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) is a promising technique for cancer therapy. However, in order to deliver the required dose to the tumor, minimize potential toxicity in normal organs, as well as monitor therapeutic effects, it is important to assess the individualized internal dosimetry based on patient-specific data. Advanced imaging techniques, especially radionuclide imaging, can be used...
